MUSIC MONDAY- LEDISI
Ledisi Anibade Young ( /ˈlɛdɨsiː/) is an American recording artist, singer-songwriter, record producer, CEO and actress. Her first name means "to bring forth" or "to come here" in Yoruba.[1] Ledisi is known for her jazz influenced vocals. In 1995, Ledisi formed the group known as Anibade. After unsuccessfully trying to get the group signed to a major label, she formed LeSun Records with Sundra Manning. Along with her group Anibade, Ledisi released an album entitled Take Time. The album gained major airplay from local radio stations.
In 2000, Ledisi released her first album, entitled Soulsinger: The
Revival. Ledisi and her group toured in 2001, performing various shows.[1] In 2002, Ledisi released her second album, Feeling Orange but Sometimes Blue. The album won her an award for "Outstanding Jazz Album" at the California Music Awards.
In 2007, Ledisi signed a major record deal with Verve Forecast and released her third album in August of that year, entitled Lost & Found, which sold almost 217,000 copies and earned her two Grammy nominations, including one for Best New Artist.[2] In 2008, Ledisi released her Christmas album, It's Christmas.
In 2009, Ledisi released her fourth album Turn Me Loose, which earned her 2 Grammy nominations. (PROVIDED BY WIKIPEDIA)

MUSIC MONDAY- Jhene Aiko
If you take Mya and Cassie, combine the two and add a touch of exotic essence to the formula, Jhene Aiko would be the product. With the release of her mixtape "Sailing Souls" in March of 2011, Jhene Aiko is taking the underground music wolrd by storm! But make no mistake, Aiko is nowhere near a stranger to the music buisness, she has been exposed to the industry since the early age of just five years old, having two older sister's in the one hit wonder girl group "Gyrl."
As luck hit she later landed on her own singing contract and became the opening act on the "Scream 3" tour which also headlined by her cousin "Lil Fizz" group "B2K" at the age of 16.
Her cd "Sailing Souls" has a nice smooth vibe, distinctive diverse beats and catchy hooks. The cd quickly draws you in, making you pay attention to more than just the nice sounds and cute chorus lines. Although Aiko may not be a big name in the music bizz, she collaborates with some of todays hottest hit makers such as Miguel, Gucci Mane, Drake, and the king of controversy himself Kanye West.
With the ease of her soft voice, you'll quickly be attracted to the calming smooth track "Higher" on the cd, where she compares not only her love but herself to the affect of being "under the influence"...I'll let you fill in that blank ;). Her voice may not be as strong or be packed with a loud punch but it is striking and moving in songs lke "You vs Them" where she touches on giving into the popular demand of fame while recognizing the importance of a loving relationship. Check her out and tell us what you think about our artist for Music Monday Jhene Aiko.

WILL WOMAN EVER REALLY RUN THE WORLD?!
Question of the day, will woman ever REALLY run the world? There are so many things that are changing in our society these days, from our community’s exception of homosexuals to having a black man run the country. But the real question still stands; will woman ever be able to RUN the world? What would it take for that to happen? Are our young girls even being shaped to do so? Would people even want that to be? What do you think?

Music Monday - Artist Pick of the Week
Unless you have been living under a rock, by now you've heard the hot sounds from fairly new music artist, Miguel. Miguel is a hot young singer on the rise with his debut singles "All I Want Is You" and current single "Sure Thing". His debut album "All I Want Is You" released in December 2010 consists of 13 songs(11 full songs and 2 interludes) total.
As some know and as many are still learning Miguel is a Los Angeles, California native, and biracial product of a Mexican father and African American mother. Just like his diverse background, his album includes a diverse mix of music. His sound derives from genres such as R&B, Pop, Hip-Hop, and a slight Reggae feel, he collaborates with other artists like J. Cole on the hit "All I Want Is You."
With a fresh sound and "real" artistic touch Miguel displays his vocal range variety, holding the exact dose the music industry is missing! With songs like "Girls Like You", "Girl With The Tattoo" and "Vixen" one might think the album is catered to only the male audience and their perspective on relationships and sex, but that is NOT the case! Both sexes can truly relate to the songs on the album because everyone can relate to lust or love.
I have great hopes for this young hopeful and I think if he continues making music the way he is now, he will be headed down a road of great success! by Brandon Bethea
